My Nexus 7010 was supposed to be on the dock today... sigh. ...worst. christmas. EVER!!!

First and foremost: I'm not a developer. Secondly, I'm not a developer. I'm a network engineer who writes little chunks of code to automate tasks or simplify my life. Nothing elaborate. That said, I didn't think my habit of writing in vim was terribly unreasonable. It's light, and quick... it has syntax highlighting... what else could you want ? Quite a lot it turns out. Dave Waller, my perl mentor and geek extraordinare introduced me to the wonderful word of full blown IDEs (integrated development environment) and life is forever changed. I've spent just a few hours in eclipse at this point, but it was immediately self evident that there was no going back. The first chunks of code were consistent, and better organized than anything i had produced prior. The kind of excitement i felt yesterday was something I havn't experienced in the workplace in quite some time...

It's a little early to making any broad proclamations on the matter... but I suspect, i may actually begin to enjoy coding. Time to start producing.

How I know I'm losing my mind... I needed to send a simple email query to some friends to verify our dinner engagement. Composition of said message began with a perl subroutine, which only after thinking on it for a while did I realize that's not how most of the humans talk to each other.
